1. Deleting Google Search History on Desktop

First up, let’s look at how to delete your search history on a desktop. Whether you’re using Chrome, Firefox, or any browser, this method works because it’s tied to your Google account, not the browser itself.

Start by opening your browser and going to google.com. In the top right corner, make sure you’re signed in to your Google account. Once you’re signed in, click on your profile icon and select “Manage your Google Account.”

Next, click on the Data & Privacy tab on the left-hand side. Scroll down until you see the “Things you’ve done and places you’ve been” section. Here, click on Web & App Activity.

Now, you’ll see all your activity, including search history and all the apps you have used on your android or IOS (if this google account is also active on your devices). To delete all your search history, and app history click on the Turn Off button on the right and choose any of the two options. Now google will not store your search history nor your app activity.

If you are only interested in deleting google search history then Click on the “Google search icon” and select the time for which you want to delete search history, whether it’s from the last hour, last day, or “All time.” If you want to clear everything, select “All time.”

And there you go! That’s how to clear your entire Google search history on desktop. Super easy, right?

2. Deleting Google Search History on Android

Now, let’s move on to your Android device. The steps are pretty similar, but I’ll walk you through it.

First, open the Google app it may be Google Maps, Gmail or Google Chrome (if you are logged in) on your phone. Tap on your profile picture in the top right corner, and just like on desktop, select “Manage your Google Account” OR “Google Account”.

From here, tap on the Data & Privacy tab, scroll down to “Web & App Activity,” and you’ll see the same options we saw on the desktop.

Tap on Manage Activity to view all your search entries. Just like before, you can delete all your history by selecting “Delete all time” or remove specific searches by tapping on “X” next to each entry and hitting Delete.

And that’s it! In just a few taps, you can delete your Google search history from your Android device.

3. Deleting Google Search History on iPhone/iPad

Next, let’s go over how to delete your search history on iPhones or iPads. This method is very similar to Android, so if you’re familiar with that process, you’ll be good to go!

Open the Google app on your iPhone or iPad. Just like before, tap on your profile picture, go to “Manage your Google Account,” and select the Data & Privacy tab.

Scroll down, tap on “Web & App Activity,” and then Manage Activity. From here, you can choose to delete specific searches or clear all your search history. If you don’t want google to save your app and search history select Turn Off and google will not save your app and search history.

See how easy that was? You can now keep your search history private no matter which device you’re using.

4. Deleting Specific Google Search Entries

Now, let’s say you don’t want to delete your entire history—maybe just a few specific searches. Here’s how to do it, and this works across all devices.

Go back to your Web & App Activity page and instead of deleting all history, scroll through the list of your search entries. Next to each search, you’ll see “X”. Click on the “X”, and you’ll have the option to delete that specific search entry.

This way, you can clear out only the searches you don’t want to keep while leaving the rest of your history intact.

5. Using Incognito Mode to Avoid Search History

Now, I know some of you might be thinking, “I don’t want to deal with deleting my history all the time. Is there a way to avoid saving it in the first place?” Well, good news—there is! It’s called Incognito Mode.

When you browse in Incognito Mode, none of your search history or web activity will be saved to your account. To open it, just click the three dots in the top-right corner of Chrome and select “New Incognito Window.”

This is perfect if you want to keep your searches private without having to worry about clearing them later.

6. Bonus Tip: Auto-Delete Your Google Search History

Now, if you’re someone who forgets to delete your history regularly, here’s a bonus tip for you! You can set your Google account to automatically delete your search history after a certain period—like every 3 months or 18 months.

To do this, go back to Web & App Activity, and at the top, you’ll see an option that says “Auto-delete.” Click on that and choose how often you want Google to delete your history—3, 18, or 36 months. This way, you don’t have to worry about manually clearing your history—it’ll take care of itself!

And there you have it—everything you need to know about deleting your Google search bar history, whether it’s on desktop, Android, or iPhone.
