How to Convert FAT32 to NTFS Without Losing Data

  1. By using third party software like EaseUs Partition Master which is free to download.
  2. By using Command prompt (CMD) in windows.

1. Using EaseUs Partition Master for Converting FAT32 to NTFS:

Step 1. First Install and launch EaseUs Partition Master. You can download EaseUs partition master here for free.


Step 2. Select any partition with FAT32 file system which you want to convert to NTFS, right click on it and select “Convert to NTFS” from the right click menu.

If you want to change the file system of USB Flash drive or SD card, first plug it in and then select the preferred storage device.

Step 3. On the new Pop-up window click OK Button, and follow the final step below to get it done.

Step 4. On Completing step 3 , this operation is now in pending queue, Now click on “Execute 1 Operation” button located in the upper left corner(highlighted in the screenshot below).


A new pop-up window will appear titled “Pending Operations” which lists the details of the current operation to be executed. Click on Apply button to start the process of converting FAT32 to NTFS and then click on Finish button when the process completes.

2. Convert FAT32 to NTFS using CMD (command prompt) in windows:

Although this method is simple and we are going to explain each step very clearly but you should follow this only if you are an advanced user of Windows, having some experience of executing commands in command prompt.

1. Open Command Prompt by following any of these methods. Press windows logo key + R, type cmd in the Run text input field and press enter.


Or click on the start menu and start typing CMD and then click on Command prompt.

2. Check and write down the drive letter which you want to convert, in this tutorial we will use drive letter H, which is a USB drive.

3. The command for converting FAT or Fat32 to NTFS is convert drive: /fs:ntfs .

If you need more help about this command type help convert at command prompt and press enter.


4. Now we will enter the command convert H: /fs:ntfs for converting the file system of H drive(Usb device) from FAT32 to NTFS.

You should specify your own drive letter which you want to convert.

As you can see the file system of our USB drive (H) is successfully converted to NTFS.

That’s all, you can now easily convert the file system of any system drive or USB drive.
